Engineering Design Capability

Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
Full-featured in-house Solidedge function capable of converting 2D/3D hybrid rubber assembly designs into prevision 2D drafting. Robust data exchange capability: AutoCAD DWG, DXF, Microstation DGN, 2D IGES, 3D IGES, STEPS, ACIS and Parasolid®.

Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE)
In-house finite element analysis capability, using MSC.Marc, world’s leading non-linear CAE software. MSC.Marc allows Vulcanite to perform a wide variety of linear and non-linear structural / coupled analyses with graphical, interactive interface, including analysis of large deformation, finite strain and contact behaviour in rubber components.

Quasi-Static Testing Capability

Compression Testing
Static compressive testing of rubber components, using a servo-controlled computerised universal testing machine with the following specification:

  • Load resolution: 1/200000 (+/- 0.5%)
  • Stroke resolution: (+/- 0.001mm)
  • Testing data capture rate: 8000 readings / second.

Universal test bench and configuration can be adjusted to conduct the following modes:

Linear Testing

  • Shear / Lateral Testing.
  • Radial Testing
  • Axial Testing

Angular Testing

  • Cardanic Rotation Testing
  • Torsional Rotation Testing.

Shear Testing

The shear testing machine, designed by Vulcanite, is used to keep a load of up to 100 kN constant on a test specimen for the entire period of the test. 8000 deflection readings are taken periodically
and are used to analyse the shear behaviour of the specimen. Tests can be run over 12 hrs or up to a 1 year time period. However, most shear testing on rubber products can be done over a day or two and the results extrapolated to determine the expected shear over the life of a product.
Transient Testing Capability
Compression Set Testing
For vulcanised compounds used in rubber component design, they are subjected to in-house compression set test (under constant deflection), in accordance with Australian Standard AS1683.13 & British Standard BS903 Part A6.

Creep Testing & Estimation
Viscoelastic analysis of all rubber components using in-house creep testing machine. Duration of tests can be set between 12 hours to 12 months. Valuable viscoelastic data can be gathered and then extrapolated to estimate the lifetime creep behaviour of certain components.

Dynamic Fatigue Testing
Vulcanite has strong corporate alliance and close partnership with Australia-leading university education bodies / research testing facilities and reliable private consulting firms.
