Vulcanite Pty Ltd is responsible for achieving
the highest standards in environmental management.
The company has as one of its Key Performance Indicators the
management and minimisation of waste. Part of the core objectives
of the business state “Implicit in this is a competitive
strategy for continuing improvement in quality, safety, and
efficiency directed at customer satisfaction and a minimisation
of waste.” As an example of this, the company has recently
ceased to use a rubber mill that has been in operation for
several decades. The mill has become inefficient and represented
OH&S issues for the company. Recognising these as important
environmental and health concerns, Vulcanite has now outsourced
the production previously put through the mill, to other companies
with more modern and environmentally sensitive equipment.
The Company will:
- Comply with environmental requirements of statutory authorities
and develop practices that will minimize the impact of the
company's activities on the environment.
- Ensure employees are aware of environmental issues.
- Encourage all employees and contractors working on the
premises to undertake their duties and meet their responsibilities
outlined above.
Management is accountable for the effective implementation
of an environmental management program, and must ensure
that employees and contractors are made aware of such.
Program objectives include:
- Implementing a risk management culture in the workplace
by continuously identifying environmental hazards, assessing
the risks and either eliminating them or controlling them
to an acceptable level.
- Considering environmental issues as a part of any decision-making
that is made in the business.
- Training employees so that they can confidently manage
environmental issues.
- Consulting with employees about environmental issues
and involving them in the management of the environment
on the job.
